The Vital Statistics section of the City Clerk’s Department is responsible for registration of all births (until July 27, 2008) and deaths occurring in the municipality, as well as the issuance of marriage licences.
Effective July 28, 2008, birth registrations are processed directly by the Office of the Registrar General. Further information is available here.
Administration of municipal cemetery business transactions including the sale of cemetery plots and mausoleum crypts, cemetery services and the issuing of monument permits is also the responsibility of the Vital Statistics section of the Clerk's Department.
Marriage licences are issued between 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday except holidays. The licence fee is $100 cash or certified cheque (debit cards accepted). Download licence requirements and marriage licence application form here.
The City Clerk’s Department does not issue birth, death or marriage certificates. Copies of these certificates are available from the Ontario Office of the Registrar General. Applications are available through www.serviceontario.ca. You can also contact the Registrar General by calling 1-800-461-2156.
