The John Rhodes Community Centre Pool is a first-class facility for hosting sporting competitions and other tourism related activities. The main user groups of the pool facilities are: Red Cross Swim Program - Lessons, Sault Ste. Marie Aquatic Club, Northern Storm Aquatic Club, Soo Tridents Underwater Hockey Club, Soo Masters Polar Bear Club, the Algoma District School Board and the Huron Superior Catholic District School Board.
The facility consists of:
- 25 metre - 8 lane pool
- handicapped ramp entrance into the main pool
- beach-front tot pool
- spectator viewing for approximately 400
- family change rooms
- large male and female change rooms
- a special function/meeting room
- barrier free access to most of the building
- direct access to and use of the John Rhodes Community Centre’s tournament facilities which include a multi-purpose classroom, tournament office, lounge restaurant and concession area, and a pro shop
The Canadian Red Cross Swim Kids Water Safety Program is taught at the John Rhodes Community Centre Pool. Lessons are available for all ages: infant, pre-school, school-aged children, high school students, and adults.
Advanced lifesaving courses such as Bronze Star, Bronze Medallion, Bronze Cross, National Lifeguard Service, Assistant Water Safety Instructor, and Water Safety Instructor are also taught. Go HERE for the lesson schedules.
New Admission Policy for Swims and Rentals effective September 1, 2007
| Under 7 years of age |
All children under 7 years of age must be directly supervised by a parent or guardian who is 16 years of age or older. Ratio 2:1 |
| 7 to 9 years of age |
Children 7 to 9 years of age must pass the Facility Swim Alone Test to swim alone. If they cannot pass the Facility Swim Alone Test, they must be directly supervised by a parent or guardian who is 14 years of age or older. Ratio 4:1 |
| 10 years and older |
Children over 10 years of age may swim without adult accompaniment. |
Facility Swim Alone Test can be done at any time during a swim for any swimmer between the ages of 7 and 9 years of age who wishes to swim alone. The swim test involves swimming one width of the big pool (20 metres) using a front or back swim stroke, demonstrating your comfort in the water. This must be done independently, without stopping or touching the bottom of the pool.
