The City of Sault Ste. Marie provides bi-weekly collection of leaf and yard waste, which is processed into compost.
The maximum weight for compost bags is 20 kilograms or 44 pounds.
Leaf and yard waste consists of leaves, grass clippings, and garden waste. These are the only items which will be accepted for collection. All animal waste and branches must be removed. Only biodegradable paper bags will be accepted. Please note: the landfill does accept brush, branches, trees and wood at the designated brush dump area. Leaf and yard waste is also accepted at the Leaf and Yard Waste Bunker located at the City Landfill.
Rural residents outside the Fourth Line and Allen’s Side Road boundaries may call 705-759-5201 to arrange for individual collection of leaf and yard waste during the scheduled months.
For more information, check out the Collection Calendar or contact Mike Blanchard, Manager, Waste Management and Refuse, at 705-541-7087 or email: m.blanchard@cityssm.on.ca.
