City identifies cooling locations for residents to beat the heat

Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) has issued a Heat Warning for the City of Sault Ste. Marie and area. Hot and humid conditions are expected to last today through to Saturday, August 21 with forecasted maximum temperatures of 28 to 30 degrees Celsius, with humidex values 35 to 38.
As a result, the City is making residents aware of facilities that can serve as a cooling location to find relief from the heat:

James L. McIntyre Centennial Library (Open Monday 1 p.m. – 8 p.m., Tuesday – Friday 1 p.m. – 6 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. and closed Sunday)

North Branch Library (Monday and Tuesday 12 p.m. – 5 p.m., Wednesday 12p.m. – 8 p.m., Thursday and Friday 12 p.m. – 5 p.m. and closed Saturday and Sunday)

Peter G. Manzo Pool (Open 1 p.m. – 7 p.m. daily)

Greco Pool (Open 1 – 7 p.m. daily)

Splash Pad (Open 9 a.m. – 9 p.m. daily)

John Rhodes Centre (Building only is open to the public 6 a.m. – 11 p.m. this Thursday, Friday and Saturday)

Northern Community Centre (Open Monday – Friday from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. and Saturday from noon – 4 p.m. Closed Sunday)
During periods of hot weather, the safety of all residents is the priority. Anyone without access to air-conditioning or a cooling area can visit one of the City’s cooling locations listed above. All provincial and local health guidelines and appropriate measures including physical distancing, use of masks and hand washing will be in place to prevent the spread of COVID-19. The City reminds residents to follow Algoma Public Health recommendations during a heat warning and to stay safe.
