Notice of Public Information Centre - Relocation of Downtown Bus Terminal

The Study: The City of Sault Ste Marie has initiated a Class Environmental Assessment (EA) in accordance with Ontario Regulation 231/08: Transit Projects and Metrolinx undertakings to evaluate the potential of relocation of the Downtown Bus Terminal in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.
The Transit Terminal is the main starting and end locations of all public transit bus routes within the City of Sault. Ste. Marie. There are increasing concerns about public safety, operational presence and accessibility at the existing Terminal located at the corner of Queen Street and Denis Street. This building has reached the end of its useful life and the City is considering relocating the terminal to 111 Huron Street with the goal of improving communication, accessibility, operational efficiencies, and oversight at the Terminal.
The Process: The project is being planned under
Schedule A+ of the
Class Environmental Assessment process and a key component of the study is consultation with interested stakeholders (public and review agencies). Additional information is available online at:

To facilitate this, we will be holding two (2) Virtual Public Information Centres where consultants and municipal staff will be available to discuss the opportunity of moving the terminal facility, and to get input from the public and regulatory agencies.
The Vitural information sessions will be held on:
Wednesday, January 13, 2021 at 12 p.m. – 1 p.m.; and
Tuesday, January 19, 2021 at 6 p.m. – 7 p.m.
Depending on public interest, additional information centres may be scheduled.
