Splash Pad to open on Saturday

Friday, July 3, 2020

As part of Stage 2 of the Province’s reopening framework, the City of Sault Ste. Marie continues to take a cautious and gradual approach to ensure that safety and proper procedures are in place at all facilities. As part of its next steps, the City is announcing that the Bellevue Park Splash Pad will open on Saturday, July 4, 2020. The Splash Pad is open daily 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

“We will continue to take a cautious approach to reopening more outdoor recreational amenities with the goal of ensuring the health and safety of our community. Please remember to continue practising physical distancing measures, adhering to social gathering emergency orders and washing your hands frequently,” said Malcolm White, CAO, City of Sault Ste. Marie.

At this time, the City of Sault Ste. Marie is focusing its efforts on reopening its swimming and outdoor recreational amenities only. When using the Splash Pad, residents are reminded to stay at least 6ft. / 2m. from other people and follow social gathering sizes of 10 or less. Be courteous and share this space with the community. Limit your time and ensure others have a chance to use the amenity. If the Splash Pad is busy, and physical distancing is not possible, residents are asked to return at a later time.

“Staff are focused on making the necessary preparations to meet the demands of the community for facility use when permitted to do so. As with other areas, these preparations include complying with Provincial legislation, complying with guidance from Algoma Public Health (often requiring APH site inspections) and factoring in user group requirements informed by terms and guidance from their governing bodies,” adds White.

Tentatively, the City has scheduled the reopening of the Manzo and Greco outdoor pool on July 13 and the John Rhodes pool on July 15.

Residents are reminded to take extra caution and abide by on-site signage and protocols. The City of Sault Ste. Marie continues to work closely with Algoma Public Health and community stakeholders to monitor the COVID-19 situation and respond accordingly. For the most current information, updates will be posted to the City’s website at saultstemarie.ca/covid19 and on social media (@CitySSM).
