Do you want to be the Mayor for a day?

The City of Sault Ste. Marie and the Rotary Club of Sault Ste. Marie North are accepting submissions for the 2019 Mayor for a Day contest. Students are asked to submit a letter, video or any other creative piece that answers these questions:
  1. Why would you like to be the Mayor for a day?
  2. If you were the Mayor, what would you do?
  3. What are the things you like most about Sault Ste. Marie?
“The Mayor for a Day contest is a great opportunity for local youth to learn more about municipal government,” said Mayor Christian Provenzano. “I have been impressed by the knowledge and creativity demonstrated by local students year-after-year since we started this contest in 2016, and I look forward to reviewing this year’s submissions.”

The deadline for submissions is October 11, 2019 and the winner will be announced on October 18. The winner will open the City Council meeting on October 22, and will also receive a pizza party for their class, a tour of the Civic Centre, a meeting with the Mayor and the opportunity to attend a Rotary North luncheon with their family.

Entries may be emailed, mailed or delivered in person to the Mayor’s Office in the Civic Centre at 99 Foster Drive. Participants may submit only one idea per entry, and the contest is open to Grade 5 and Grade 6 students only.

Participants must submit a fully completed application form. It is available online at: https://saultstemarie.ca/mayorforaday
